Atkinson Dam - QLD - 21st - 26th May
Once again the group came to meet at one of our favourite camp spots that we now have been using for the group since around 2013. It just shows how much we all like the spot that we all keep returning. The meet in May “ It May be XMAS” has been the theme and run by Robyn and Mike but this year they passed the banner onto Ian and Dianne as they were going on travelling mode. It was decided to change the camp to May Camp after discussion close to the time about the amount of people who were out and about travelling and unable to visit. Thank you Ian and Dianne for taking it on and organising but then another spanner in the works and health got in the way so Robyn and Lindsay took over the reigns for the meet.
Mother Nature was kind for us as the week before was a rain even in SE Qld and the day we left another rain event occurred. We were fortunate that the first one was coast only but after we left weather for the dam area as well and the area is known for its black soil.
it was great to welcome day visits from Ian and Dianne and Peter and Karyn, both bringing some fur baby’s to run and swim with Honey.
We had members from near and far, Kevin and Kath the closest as they recently moved not that far way and the most distance Gus and Jill from NSW.
The communal fire pit got a great work out with many people using it for cooking, bidgees, camp ovens, veggies in the coals, people sharing cooking utensils and even a cake.
Animal life once again was enjoyed with bird life, possums, seeing the tawny frog mouths each day was a treat, a bearded dragon coming out of the the fire surrounds a first of for all and seeing the kangaroos returning after the grounds had a burn off. Although the couple of snakes we saw was unusual so blame it on the burn off.
Great weekend thanks all for making it that way and guess what you can come and enjoy the group and grounds once again in November as it’s booked in by us so lock in your calendars for 4 November to 11 November. Come for the whole time or whatever you can.
Cheers
Robyn and Lindsay
